Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. It strives to tell a story by connecting the mind and the body through fluid dance movement. Dancers also explore the area of unconventional movements that were gathered from all dance styles of the world. Because today's contemporary dance is an eclectic mix of styles, it can be performed to wide ranging styles of music. This evolving style has fast become one of the most dominant genres for dancers throughout the world.

Students who study contemporary dance develop physical skills and training habits that can help them maintain better health throughout their lives. They also gain poise, confidence, emotional stability, and creative thinking skills that will help them throughout their academic and professional careers.

At Theatrebox, our dancers create characters, or stories, others perform entirely new creations as they improvise in their own unique style. Our tutors help them to discover new things about themselves and help them exceed their own expectations. Students study elements of contract, release, spiral, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation.
